Nicholas R. Grego, 85, passed away on November 14, 2016. He was born in Patterson NJ, April 28, 1931. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 33 years: Patricia Ann Grego; sons: Richard (Angela) Grego and Thomas Grego; stepsons: James Kenny, Robert (Marianne) Kenny, and Kevin (Jill) Kenny; stepdaughter: Kathleen (Kenneth) Baldwin; 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter: Lorraine Marie Grego and wife of 27 years: Dorothy Marie Grego. Nick was a US Army veteran and served in the Philippine Islands and Korean War. He was a high voltage lineman for Public Service of NJ for many years and started working part-time as an auxiliary policeman in Stanhope, NJ. Over the years, he worked his way up through the ranks to Chief of Police and was well respected among the New Jersey Police Chiefs Association. Nick retired in 1993, and moved with Pat to Dataw Island , SC where he worked security at Paris Island Marine Base. In 1997, the Grego's moved to Florida and Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club. If you knew Nick Grego, you didn't just like him, you loved him. He was a true gentleman who treated everyone with respect and love. He was strong, kind, and had a great sense of humor. He loved God, his Country, and his family with his whole being. There will be a funeral mass at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in San Antonio, FL on Thursday, November 17 at 10:00 am with a viewing for friends and family at 9:00 am. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
