Obituary

Nicey Martin, age 73, loving mother of two, Lela and James Cleveland, passed away after a tragic fall and underlying health conditions on March 4, 2023. Nicey was born in Dade City, Florida on July 30, 1949 to parents James and Nicey Ellah Loe. She was her mothers name sake. Nicey like her name was a loving and caring woman, always giving her time to others, and she incorporated that into her motherhood. She married on February 16, 1968 to James Martin, which sadly ended in divorce after 26 years of marriage and the co-designing and building of her first home. Being the independent woman she was, she went on to achieve her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with honors in December 2004. She used her degree to go on and place hundreds of children in safe homes and teach care givers how to provide for those children as a social case worker. Her hard work and dedication paid off in 2015 when she succeeded in solely purchasing her first home in Pasco County and finding it was in the same community as her great grandmothers home and a historical site. She felt so blessed and later was given a photo of her on the steps as a child. It just felt meant to be. Nicey devoted her life to Christianity. Her love for God was foremost in her life and her favorite verse was Psalm 91 as she wrote it on every hallmark card. "Those who live in the shelter of the most high will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety, he is my God and I trust him." Nicey was a member of the Glory Dancers at Carpenters Home Church for many years and she took classes in college to learn sign language in order to sign at church to spread the word of God to those who cannot hear. She loved traveling and was able to make her way around some of the United States and outer countries with friends and family. She was a sister and left behind two sisters, the oldest being Nellah Dietz and youngest Martha Gaskin, who loved Nicey with all their hearts. Niceys most rewarding moment in life was the birth of her 3 grand-daughters: Rachel, Lindsay, and Caitlin. They were her pride, glory, and devotion. She is survived and loved dearly by: one son, James Martin; one daughter, Lela Neiswender (Andy); three granddaughters: Rachel, Lindsay, and Caitlin; two sisters: Nellah Dietz (Bill) and Martha Gaskin; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, friends, coworkers, and thankful clients, children, and families. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 2pm at Hodges Family Funeral Home Dade City Chapel. A visitation will begin one hour prior the to the service. Burial will follow at Dade City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory and lifes desired charity. Joyce Meyer Ministries P.O.
