Myron (Bud) Bort, age 77, passed away December 12, 2021, from complications of heart disease.
Bud was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Myron and Alice (Habuda) Bort, he lived in both Columbiana and Canfield, Ohio until moving to Grove Ridge in Dade City, Florida in 2008.
Bud served his country as a Navy Seabee during the Vietnam war. He also encouraged many veterans to join the VA system to receive the disability benefits they were entitled to.
Bud worked with his father in the Bort Packing Company (home of the famous Farmgood Kielbasa) in Columbiana, Ohio until the business was destroyed by fire in 1969. He also worked with his grandfather, Joseph Habuda at the Habuda Slag and Gravel company. He was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic until his retirement. He then opened his own plumbing and electrical business until he was diagnosed with cancer for the first time.He was a member of the Canfield, Ohio Lions Club, the Good Sam Club, the American Legion, and Heavy Equipment Group. Bud was an assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout troop 30 of Canfield, Ohio for 15 years guiding the young men including his oldest son, John to the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed all activities with the boys including hiking and camping. As a result of his camping experience, he and his family purchased their first RV and camped all over the USA for over 30 years. He served as president, area coordinator, and wagon master for 4 different camping clubs during those years.
Bud loved woodworking, building, and creating works of art. He always enjoyed helping others and in later years teaching others to create on their own.
Bud is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons, John Pilutti and Michael (Stacy) Pilutti of Columbus, Ohio, daughter Penny (Greg) Sunder of Arlington, Texas, daughter Teri Bort Givens of New Port Richey, Florida, and son Michael (Kathlene) Bort of Canfield, Ohio, 14 grandchildren- Kylie Bigham, Ian Sunder, Gavin Sunder, Leyna Sunder, Aaron Givens, Brandon Givens, Alex Bort, Callie Bort, Greyson Pilutti, John Piiutti, Micheal Pilutti, Nathan Pilutti, Stephanie Pilutti, and Jack Pilutti, there is one great-grandson Lucan Bigham.
Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 1:00 PM.
