Obituary

Miriam Etta McNair Parker, a resident of Dade City, passed away November 7, 2022 at the age of 96 having spent a life well-lived. Miriam was born in Troy, Alabama on June 2, 1926. She attended Troy University where she met her husband, Ted. They brought their young family to Dade City from Webb, Alabama in 1954. Miriam was a dedicated English teacher and taught at the Lacoochee one-room school house, Dade City Grammar School, and Pasco Junior High School. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church. Some of her greatest joys were moments spent among family, holidays and special moments, traveling back to Alabama, and sharing her love of the Lord. She was known as Mem and Memi to those closest to her. She took pride in lovingly creating a special family home on the top of a hill that she named Green Brae. Tending to her flowers and old-time Southern cooking were lifelong interests and gave her great pleasure. Family history was important to her, and she loved to share old family stories with relatives and friends. She was a proud direct descendant of the earliest American settlers in Florida, the Dupont and Buyck families who received large land grants from the Spanish Crown in the 1790s and lived along the Matanzas River South of St. Augustine. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years Dallas Ted Parker, her parents Talmage McNair and Mary Spigener Hall, sister Marylyn McNair, and brothers Charles McNair and John McNair. Surviving family members include her children: Alan Parker (Jeannine) of Tallassee, AL and Ana Patterson of Dade City, FL. Grandchildren: Stuart Parker (Kathleen) of Hoover, AL; Andrew Parker (Kale) of Tuscaloosa, AL; Brook Houck (Aaron) of Odessa, FL; Kate Fisher (Alex) of Durham, NC; Art Cullifer (Natalie) of Headland, AL; and Amy Henderson (Kevin) of Tallassee, AL. She was also proud to have 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Hodges Funeral Home and Chapel Hill Gardens in Dade City on Tuesday, November 15th with visitation at 10 am, followed by a memorial service in the chapel at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Gulfside Hospice.
