Obituary

Milton H. Stiles 91 of Dade City, Florida passed away peacefully after a short illness on Monday, July 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Milt was born December 27, 1932 in Cortland, NY to Walter and Mary (Neville) Stiles. He grew up on Groton Ave in Cortland. Graduated Cortland High School in 1951 and attended New York Forest Ranger School in Wanakena, NY. He started work at the Grand Union in Cortland as stock boy for his father at age 14. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict 1954 1956 in Tokyo, Japan. After the service Milt worked at the Grand Way in Cortland and Grand Union in Ithaca working his way to his own store as manager of the Grand Union on Liberty Street in Bath, NY from 1958 1968. When the store closed, he went to work on the pump gang at the Great Western Winery in Hammondsport, NY 1968 1995. He married Loretta Allen in 1953 and after her death he married Frances Kolo Klinkenberg in 1968. Milt loved his family and friends dearly always willing to help out and lend a big hand where he could. He was a lifetime member of the Bath Volunteer Fire Department with offices from President to Assistant Chief, a member of the Bath Fire and Auxiliary Police, a member of the Bath American Legion, founding member of the Bath Bow Hunters Archery Club and was a seasoned bow hunter tagging many deer. Milt also bowled in many leagues at Steuben Bowling Academy (where he got his high game of 290) and Murphys Lanes in Bath. After his retirement, Fran and he settled in Dade City, Florida where he enjoyed playing dominoes, card games, poker, and helping people especially by taking them back and forth to the airport. He is survived by his children: daughters Charlene Margetiak of Norwalk, OH, Karen (Tom) Brouwere of Dade City, FL, Vickie (Max) Tobias and Patricia (Chris) Ingraham of Bath, NY, son James (Jane) Stiles of Omaha, NE, Stepson Robert Klinkenberg of Prattsburgh, NY and stepdaughter Deborah Warner of Bath, NY, daughter-in-law Donna Dansey of Fredericksburg, VA, son-in-law George Folckemer of Elmira, NY, sister-in-law Marlene Thomas, Corning, NY, 22 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, wives Loretta and Frances, son Darrell Stiles, stepdaughter Linda Folckemer, stepson Michael Klinkenberg, son-in-law Joe Margetiak, brothers Walter Stiles and Kenneth Stiles, grandsons CJ Ingraham and Robert Klinkenberg II, and special friend Shirley Majeskie. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be laid to rest in Pleasant Valley, Hammondsport, NY. Celebration of life will be held at a later date in Dade City and on Saturday August 31 in Bath.
