Mercedes Magaly Herrera Peñaherrera, lovingly known to all as Maggy, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 59.
Maggy was born on December 28, 1966, in Quito, Ecuador, to Jaime Eduardo Herrera Villarroel and Rosario Peñaherrera. She was raised alongside her siblings Gina Herrera, Jaime Herrera, Carmen del Rosario Herrera, and Tatiana Herrera. She later earned an Associate's Degree and built a successful career as the owner of a house cleaning business, serving her community with dedication, integrity, and pride.
Maggy made her home in Wesley Chapel, Florida, where she created a life centered on family, friendship, and hard work. She loved dancing, telling jokes, playing basketball, shopping, enjoying outdoor activities, and spending meaningful time with family and friends. Her warmth, laughter, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her beloved son, Jaime Gomez and his wife, Sophia Gomez, of Wesley Chapel, Florida; and her cherished granddaughter, Isabella Louise Gomez, of Wesley Chapel, Florida.
She is also survived by her sister, Gina Herrera of Wesley Chapel, Florida; her brother, Jaime Herrera and sister-in-law, Lorena Herrera, of Fort Myers, Florida; her sister, Carmen del Rosario Herrera, and brother-in-law, Jose Sanchez, of Quito, Ecuador; her sister, Tatiana Herrera, and brother-in-law, Freddy Cevallos, of Quito, Ecuador; her nephew, Luis Herrera, of Fort Myers, Florida; her nieces and nephews Marcela Cevallos and David Cevallos of Quito, Ecuador; Sarah Jones of Destin, Florida; Maria Jose Sanchez Herrera of Finland; and Micaela Sanchez Herrera of Quito, Ecuador.
Maggy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rosario Peñaherrera and Jaime Herrera.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Maggy's life on June 3, 2026, at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Zephyrhills. Viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the memories Maggy leaves behind—her laughter, her kindness, her strength, and the love she shared so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
