She addended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota where she graduated with a degree in music education. After teaching vocal music for six years in public education, she returned to college to get a degree in Counseling at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Here Mary Margaret carried on the legacy of her father who started Betmar Chorus. She was the director for 19 years attracting many singers to the group, always bringing out the best from the singers. Mary Margaret and Jim enjoyed travelling, making several trips to Europe in addition to visiting Hawaii, Australia and Zealand. The greatest joy for Mary Margaret and Jim was the past 12 years after the birth of their only grandson, Liam. They loved spending time with him and watching his development! Later she became a Deacon and then Deacon Moderator. This involved working with the Food Pantry.
