Hail Mary, full of Grace! Meema passed as she lived with dignity and resilience and of course her loving humor on December 10, 2019, at American House in Zephyrhills, FL.
Skilled, knowledgeable, talented and simply amazing, Mary, Theresa, Aunt and Meema will be remembered for her long and memorable ice skating career from Toronto, Cherry Hill Ice Arena and the Coliseum in New Jersey to Alfond Arena in Orono, and as a nurse at Lakeland Hospital where she met Dr. Rossell. It was Franks wish that Mom had a place on Cold Stream Pond, aka the Center of the Universe, to continue making memories in a place that was so very special to Mom and her family.
Mom moved from New Jersey to Enfield to finish her nursing career at Bangor Mental Health Institute. Upon retiring she shared her time between Maine and Florida with her partner, Otis St.Thomas, whom she had the pleasure of playing golf and traveling the world.
Matriarch, caretaker, teacher, seamstress, and Queen of the Center of the Universe. Meema was known for teaching generations ice skating in South Jersey and later in Orono Maine. Moms grace and nurturing were reflected in her work with children with special needs, as a bus driver for St. John of Gods school in Haddonfield to her instructing and coaching Special Olympians. She continued serving at Gulfside Hospice Thrift Store in Zephyrhills, transforming it into a prosperous boutique.
The lights of her life were her children, grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her special nieces and nephews that visited CSP. Mom embraced all those who she cared for and who visited her, from young hockey players who could only speak French, students from abroad to the amazing number of friends and family that visited our place of refuge, her home on the lake.
The family would like to thank her daughter/our sister, Heather, the staff of American House in Zephyrhills, her team of doctors, nurses and caretakers and Gulfside Hospice throughout Moms care and Hodges Funeral Home of Zephyrhills, FL.
A celebration of Meemas life will be held later at the Center of the Universe. Gifts in her memory and honor may be made through an act of kindness to those less fortunate or to the charity of your choice. Donations of blood were vital in Moms care and would be fitting for others in need. The family appreciates thoughts and prayers without flowers or cards.
Mom will be missed by so very many. "Non, je ne regrette rien."
