Obituary

May, Mary Elizabeth (Jones) 91, of San Antonio passed into eternal rest on February 3, 2016 at her home, surrounded by loved ones. Mary was born November 12, 1924 in Wilmington, OH, the fourth of the eight children of Jesse A. & Lula (Carraway) Jones. She grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Pasco High School, class of 1942. She then lived and worked in the Chicago area as a telephone operator before her marriage in 1946 when she became the bride of Arle R. May, a soldier who as assigned to a radar station near San Antonio. They returned to his home area and raised their four children on a farm near Winamac, Indiana. Upon retirement they returned to her homestead in San Antonio to care for her aging father. Mary and her husband Speed were avid square dancers. She loved to cook, garden and play cards. She was a member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church where she served many years on the original Bereavement Committee preparing post funeral dinners for parish members. She was a member of the Day Z Flower Club and the Leading Ladies luncheon group. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband Arle; sister Eloise Antink and brothers: Jesse A. Jones, John D. Jones, William B. Jones, Joseph E. (Jack) Jones and Virgil F. Jones. She is survived by three sons: Ronald P. & Sheila May of Milford, OH, Phillip R. & Sue May of Winamac, IN and Randolph May of San Antonio; one daughter: Arlene & Glen Hughes of Maud, TX; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and her brother, James Ralph Jones. She is also survived by a sister-in-law: Diane Jones, to whom she was very close, and many nieces and nephews who adored her. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:00am. Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL where she will rest with her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Post 1768, Seminarian Fund of St. Anthonys Church, or to the charity of your choice. Rosary Service
