IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary
Heininger
July 7, 1925 – February 12, 2023
Mary Heininger passed away, surrounded by her daughters, on February 12, 2023, at her home in Dade City, Florida. She was born July 7, 1925, to Henry and Carrie Green in Oakland Mills, Maryland. She spent her youth growing up on a small family farm where she established her love for gardening, flowers and fruits. She attended the University of Maryland where she met her husband Paul Heininger and obtained her degree in Nursing. They married on February 8, 1947, and upon Paul's graduation from dental school, they moved back to his hometown of Burlington Vermont where he joined his father's dental practice. In 1948, they started their family where their daughters Susan Heininger Schalk and Gail Heininger McNulty were born. Mary always missed the availability of shopping in the Burlington area, often she and Paul would travel to Montreal for an extended weekend for relaxation and shopping. She taught a course, Medical Emergencies, at the University of Vermont to the Dental Hygiene students for years. Later on, she joined her husband's dental practice as office manager and receptionist. Mary and Paul started attending Dental Conventions and developed a fondness for travel. Prior to retirement in 1982, Mary and Paul vacationed in Florida and traveled as often as he could get away from his dental practice. After retirement, they traveled extensively and visited over 60 countries and most of the US states.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul in 1997, her parents and her ten siblings. She is survived by her daughters Susan Schalk (husband Russell) from Dade City, Florida and Gail McNulty (husband John) from Colonial Heights, VA.
