Mary Bernadette Gougherty of Wesley Chapel passed away peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2021 with her loving husband, Thomas D. Gougherty, by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 18, 1947 to Joseph and Dorothy Mastro.

She moved from Brooklyn to Valley Stream, NY in 1951, where she spent many happy times growing up with her three brothers, Thomas Mastro, John Mastro and Richard Mastro. She met her future husband Tom in 1964. She graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in 1965.

After high school she worked in New York City as a secretary before marrying the love of her life in 1969. She then moved to Texas, Nebraska and Virginia before returning to Long Island, NY in 1975.

She raised her four children and then started working at the local grammar school as a teachers aide for 10 years. She then moved to Wesley Chapel, Florida in 2005 to enjoy the next part of her life. Her greatest joy in life was her family and seeing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph and Dorothy Mastro. Mary is survived by her husband, Thomas D. Gougherty, by her children, William Gougherty, Jean Marie Polk, Amy Goforth, Daniel Gougherty, by her eleven beautiful grandchildren (Chris, Matt, Ciara, Cauy, Julianna, Carly, Abby, Joey, Harlow, Lochlan and Finn) and her three brothers, Tom, John and Rich Mastro. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Tuesday, March 16th at Hodges Family Funeral Home. A mass will be conducted 10:30 AM Wednesday 17th at our Lady Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will take place 1 Pm Thursday. March 18th at Florida National Cemetery.
