After graduating from Cottonwood High School she attended what is now Troy State University where she attained a degree in Education. Upon graduation she began a teaching career at Blue Springs High School in Alabama. She taught there for two years until the tragic death of her husband Doug in an automobile accident in 1962. She then moved to Florida to be close to her parents and help care for kid brothers. Martha accepted a teaching position at Pasco High School in Dade City where she taught Typing and Business English until 1997. She was a huge supporter of all the athletic programs and rarely missed a football or basketball game. Martha was also involved with the FBLA program and was in charge of many graduation proceedings.
Mrs. Walker was a major force in student's lives and helped them achieve success in their future education plans and in their lives in general. She was known as a strict educator in the classroom but a kind and loving mother figure to all her students and her friend's children.
After retiring from teaching in 1997 she enjoyed traveling, sewing and watching hear SOAPS. Everyone that knew her was aware that on college football Saturdays nothing was more important than watching her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide play.
Martha could be stern and serious but was quick with a laugh and enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke. She was very proud of her Southern roots and it showed in her preparation of many meals she often cooked for her former students and friends.
Martha will be sorely missed and her passing will leave a great void in the Pasco County community.
