Marilyn W. Varga, a long-time resident of Zephyrhills, died peacefully during her sleep on June 10, 2024, at her home where she had been under hospice care.

Born in Setauket, New York, to Dave and Thelma Wishart, in 1930. She was 93 years old at the time of her death. Marilyn earned a bachelors degree from the State University Teachers College of Potstam in 1952. In addition to raising 6 children, she taught elementary school, in New York state and Ohio. She and her husband, John, retired to Silver Oaks Community in Zephyrhills, Florida in 1993.

Marilyn enjoyed being part of the golf community in Silver Oaks for many years. She became active in the Silver Oaks Community, initiating the welcoming committee, organizing the community directory for many years, organizing several outings as part of the social committee and starting the first Bunko group in Silver Oakes. She also enjoyed playing bridge and loved a good party and socializing with friends. She is known for being a sweet and kind woman with a warm and engaging smile and laugh.

She is survived by her 6 adult children: Eric Varga, Lisa Varga (John Ward), Peter Varga (Trisha), John Varga Jr., Gerald Varga, Michelle Welch (Steve), and her 7 grandchildren: Rachel Davis, Alexis Stevens, David Varga, Michael Varga, Patrick Varga, Christian Varga and Nicholas Welch. She was preceded in death by her husband John Varga.

There will be a funeral mass at St. Joseph Church in Zephyrhills on Monday June24, 2024 at10:00 AM, followed by interment at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. There will be a celebration of life at 3 PM at the Varga home located at 6132 Silver Oaks Drive, Zephyrhills, Florida. Friends and family are welcome. Funeral Arrangements are being made by Hodges Funeral Home in Zephyrhills.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph Church in Zephyrhills.
