Obituary

Marilyn "Nanny" Marie Barton (Ward), age 72, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026. Born on January 5, 1954, in Hamilton, Ohio, Marilyn lived a life defined by love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband and soulmate of 55 years, Donald "Poppy" Mitchell Barton, as well as her parents, Helen Jean Roberts (Saylor) and Maurice Eugene Roberts. The love she shared with them remained close to her heart throughout her life.

She leaves behind her son, Donald William Barton, and his wife, Jennifer Leigh Barton. She also shared a special bond with her nephew, Paul Barton, whom she loved as a son. Marilyn was a proud and devoted grandmother to her six grandchildren: Shelbie Barton ("Bubba D"), Sheldon Barton, Kolby Barton, Mason Barton, affectionately known as "her baby," Mariah Barton, and Kadi Barton. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia "Susie" Turner.

Marilyn dedicated many years of her career to Aetna, where she was highly respected and cherished by her coworkers and peers before retiring. While she took great pride in her work, her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family and grandchildren. Whether gathered for holidays, sharing stories, or simply enjoying one another's company, those moments meant everything to her.

Those who knew Marilyn will remember her generous spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering willingness to help anyone in need. She never met a sweet treat she didn't love and found happiness in the simple joys of life. Her kindness touched countless lives, and her love, wisdom, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Though she is no longer with us, the memories she created and the love she shared will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with the love of her life and those who went before her.

In accordance with Nanny's wishes, no formal services will be held. Instead, her family asks that you honor Nanny's memory by enjoying your favorite sweet treat—something she would have wholeheartedly approved of—and remembering the kindness and love she shared with everyone around her.
