Obituary

Marian Heidinger Steffek passed away on February 14, 2021 after a long struggle with dementia. She was born March 9, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Joseph Heidinger and Cecelia Lombard Rogers. She was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army. She met Joseph Steffek while both were on active duty and they were married November 22, 1945. After military discharge they lived in Johnstown, NY for several years until moving to the Broadalbin area where Marian was active in the American Legion Robert Lee Walsh Post (serving twice as Commander), Catholic Daughters of America, St. Joseph's Church Altar Society, Cub Scouts, and the VFW, as well as providing substitute teaching services in Fulton County schools. In 1965, the family relocated to North Greenbush, NY. Marian worked as a Cardiac Catheterization Tech at the Albany (Sam Stratton) VA Hospital. After retirement, Joe and Marian again lived in Broadalbin until Joe passed away in 1975. Marian then moved to Florida, ultimately settling in Dade City.

Marian was predeceased by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Joe; a daughter, Cecelia; and a granddaughter, Monika. She is survived by daughter Barbara Slade (Alan) of Zephyrhills, FL; sons: John Steffek (Stephanie) of Canaan, NY and Anthony Steffek of Dade City, FL; grandchildren: Brad Steffek (Yolanda), Holli Perry, Heather Steffek (Andy Schermerhorn), Joseph Clizbe, Mary Barry (Tom), and Lisa Wisner; 8 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Marian will be inurned with her husband at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Johnstown, NY, with a graveside service to be announced at a later date. The family wishes to extend its profound gratitude to the staff at Orchid Cove (formerly Heritage Park) Rehabilitation Center in Dade City and Gulfside Hospice, where both facilities dedicated their services to seeing to her comfort, care, and gentle passing. Arrangements are being handled by Hodges Funeral Home in Florida, and Halgas Funeral Home in New York.
