MARGARET (MAGGIE) ETHEL INGRAM SMITHSONMargaret (Maggie) Ethel Ingram Smithson, age 90, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017, in Zephyrhills, FL. She was born on June 14, 1927, to the late Roy E. Ingram of Tarrant City, AL, and the late Caddie Lucille Prosch Ingram of Tarrant City, AL. Maggie graduated from Montevallo State College for Women in 1949. She married Claude (Smitty) Joseph Smithson, Jr. from Fairfield, AL, in 1949. After they were married, Smitty joined the Air Force. They traveled with their growing family the world over including Alabama, Texas, Japan, Florida, Germany, Turkey, and California. She took every opportunity to expose her children to other cultures as they moved around. Maggie enjoyed working first as a secretary, then as a court stenographer, and later in life she returned to college at Polk Community College to become a nurse. Maggie was very proud of the way her father moved to Naples, FL to became a successful businessman. She was thrifty like her father, and she loved to volunteer, especially in local thrift stores. Maggie liked to share her faith in Jesus Christ with others. She was always ready to reach out with a smile and a wave to other people. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, and son Claude (Joe) Joseph Smithson, III. She is survived by her four daughters: Katherine (Kathy) Lucille Smithson Daley (Jim); Margaret (Missy) Ellen Smithson Clarke (Chuck); Carolyn Jan Kossow-Smithson (Jack); and Dawn Annice Smithson; along with six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Maggie is also survived by her sister Barbara Ruhl, and brother Roy (Bud) Ingram (Margaret Ann).There will not be any public memorial service per her request.
