Obituary

Madlyn Harrod Brooks, 96, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at her house in Dade City, Florida. She was born June 22, 1923, in Shelby County, KY to John Hayden Harrod and Mary Ann Yount Harrod. She moved from her native Kentucky with her husband Allen Brooks in 1986 to Dade City where she has lived, remained active, loved and cared for members in the community until her home-going on Sunday.

She served many roles over her 9 decades of life. She was a lovingly devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. During World War II she joined ~6 million American women like her in jobs ranging from weapons manufacturing and clothing fabrication. She was dedicated in her Christian faith and served in her home churches in KY and FL. A talented seamstress, she spent a great deal of time crocheting and quilting, and enjoyed gifting the treasures she made to family and friends.

Madlyn is survived by 2 daughters: Paula Scott & William Rayburn Moore, Barbara Sue & Troy Robinson Blann; 3 grandchildren: Kyle Rayburn & Ashley Pelham Moore, Amy Allison Moore, Jennifer Blann & Dennis Sterle; 3 great grandchildren: Hailey Brooks Fay, Haven Marie Sterle, Stella Louise Sterle; 2 siblings: Horace Rice Harrod and Helen Harrod Stratton. She was preceded in death by her first husband during World War II: Paul Scott; her second husband of 60 years: Allen Brooks; 1 grandson: Tristan Blann; and 11 siblings: John Thomas Harrod, Robert Alfred Harrod, Richard Harrod, Burgett Sanford Harrod, Enoch Andrew Harrod, Luke Harrod, Barnett Celbert Harrod, Mary Ann Mischler, Sallie Frances Chesher, Lillie Belle Cook and Minerva Mae Terrell.

She will be interred at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, KY on Saturday July 6th with a funeral service preceding at Shannon Funeral Home. Visitation to begin at 9am. A Celebration of Life Service will also be held in Dade City Florida at a later date.
