Lucille M. Shewmake, 87, of Dade City passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Born the third daughter of eight children to Peter and Lena Graber at Crawfordsville, Iowa on September 6, 1930. She attended Bluffton College in Ohio and then started her teaching career in Iowa in a one room schoolhouse. She married Ben Lehman in Berne, Indiana while continuing teaching. After moving to Las Vegas, they raised 4 daughters and had plenty of foster boys in and out of the house. She completed her bachelors and masters at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas while teaching for 43 years. After Bens death in 1975, she remarried Col. William Shewmake of Dallas, Texas. They moved to Florida 17 years ago, first residing at Travelers Rest and then Dade City. She was a former member of the Dade City Garden Club. She was an active member of Keenagers at the First Presbyterian Church of Dade City, the Red Hats Society at Travelers Rest and the Bridge Club at the Dade City Senior Center. She is survived by one brother, Cal Graber of Goshen, Indiana and four daughters: Michelle Snyder of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Marsha Gairrett of Tampa; Muriel Osborne of Virginia City, Nevada and Monica Lehman of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. There will be a memorial service held this winter at the First Presbyterian Church in Dade City. A private service will be held in Iowa for immediate family.
