Obituary

Lorence L. Lawson (Turney or Muttley) of Norwich, New York passed away after a short battle with cancer at the age of 81. He went peacefully to the angels at his daughters home in Ridge Manor, Florida surrounded by family on Saturday April 2, 2022. Lorence was born in Norwich, NY on October 6, 1940, to Lorence L. Lawson Sr. and Irene (Brooker) Reger. Lorence was the youngest of four children and was lovingly raised by his mother Irene and stepfather, Conrad Reger. Lorence graduated from Norwich High School in 1960, where he was co-captain of the wrestling team during his senior year. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Bucklin) Lawson on October 22, 1960, at St. Bartholomews Church, in Norwich. They faithfully remained members of the congregation and renewed their vows there for their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010. Lorence was employed at the Norwich Shoe Company from 1959-1966 before joining the Norwich Pharmaceutical Company (which later became Procter & Gamble Company), in 1966. He served nearly 35 years as part of the maintenance team and thoroughly enjoyed his work and the friends he made while employed there. After retirement in 2001, he and his wife spent the winter months amongst a community of friends in Zephyrhills, Florida. Lorence was a devoted husband, father and a loyal friend, who would lend his time and skills to anyone in need. His love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren was evident in his outright pride to be involved in their lives, attending events and supporting their passions as much as his own. Lorence was quiet, gentle soul with a devilish sense of humor that shined through and drew people to him and his zest for life. Lorence had an artistic and inventive mind, he could reproduce anything once he examined how it was put together. He spent hours in his workshop creating bespoke pieces that would bring magic and smiles to those around him. Lorence was a lover of animals and enjoyed all outdoor activities, including camping, swimming, gardening and traveling with his wife Pat. He enjoyed puzzles and all types of games, which he played weekly while socializing with close friends. Lorence was an avid coin collector and a member of the Hamilton Coin Club, which he attended regularly. He was quick to look through everyones change, especially if they were back from a holiday. Lorence also had great enthusiasm for cars, which began with a 1950 Mercury he tinkered with in the yard during the sixties. In the seventies, it extended to becoming a member of a pit crew at Shangri-La Speedway, in Owego, New York. During the last 30 years, Lorence was an active member of the Rolling Antiques Old Car Club, located in Norwich. He cherished his 1970 Buick Wildcat Convertible, which he was proud drive and participate in local parades for the city he lived and loved. Lorence is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Pat Lawson. His children, Lorraine (Don) Drummond of Ridge Manor Florida, Sandra (Jamie) Frank of Norwich, David (Elizabeth) Lawson of Norwich and Barbara Lawson of Tipperary, Ireland. Grandchildren, Michelle, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Daniel, Griffin and David Vincent. Great-grandchildren, Lucas, Christian, Skyler, Bella, Grayson and Madison.
