Obituary

The Rev. Lewis O. Tanno, 81, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home in Dade City, Florida. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Father Tanno received an LTH degree from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of Kentucky in 1969. He was ordained deacon and priest in the same year by Bishop William R. Moody. He was appointed Archdeacon of the Diocese of Lexington in 1975. While in seminary, he served at St. Thomas in Beattyville, Kentucky. He later served at Our Savior in Richmond, Kentucky, a mission church in Cold Springs, Kentucky followed by a longtime tenure at Ascension Episcopal Church in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. He joined the Diocese of Southwest Florida in 1986 when called as rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Dade City, Florida. After his retirement in 2003, he served as interim priest at St. Andrew's and St. Clements', both in Tampa, Florida, and St. Francis, a mission church in Bushnell, Florida. Father Tanno also served the Diocese of Southwest Florida as Dean of the Tampa Deanery. Additionally, he was a supply priest at St. James Episcopal Church in Florence, Italy and St. Patrick's Church in Kenmare, Ireland. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn "Kay" Tanno; his daughters, Jessica Armstrong (Donald) of Auburn, Alabama, Laura Boison (Mark) of Lexington, Kentucky and Roberta Tanno, of Cincinnati, Ohio; his grandchildren, Donald "Trey" Armstrong III of Auburn, Alabama and Raines, Cole and Claire Mielcarek of Lexington, Kentucky; his sister Anna May Pollock of Chardon, Ohio and nephews and nieces. A "Coffee Hour" in his honor will be held on March 2, 2013 at 4pm in Freeman Hall, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 37623 Magnolia Avenue, Dade City, Florida.
