LESLEY CAMILLE BLACK ANDERSON GASSMAN
June 9, 1969 - September 16, 2021
Lesley Camille Black Anderson Gassman was gathered from the bounds of this existence into eternity on Thursday morning, September 16, 2021, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, following an illness of several weeks.
Lesley was born June 9, 1969, at Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta. Just a few days before her first birthday, she was flown to Miami and forever united with a family of her very own (of which she took immediate ownership).
Lesley grew up in Trilby, the daughter of Douglas and Martha Black and little sister to Scott. She enjoyed being part of the extended Black and Wells/Thompson families and the added benefits of many cousins and aunts and uncles. Lesley especially bonded during childhood with her spiritual family members at Trilacoochee Church of Christ.
Following her 1987 graduation from Pasco Comprehensive High School, Lesley attended Florida College in Temple Terrace, before embarking on a European adventure in the U.S. Air Force, continuing her previous work in nursing and medical. While at Alconbury Air Force Base in England, her beloved daughter, Anastasia Marie Anderson, was born. After the military brought the family back, they were stationed in Del Rio Texas, and Minot North Dakota, at which time a special blessing arrived in the form of Kollin Douglas Nathaniel Anderson, who was united into the family as a newborn. For several years afterward, the family lived in the northwest Florida community of Baker, in close proximity to Eglin Air Force Base.
When her time with the Air Force ended, Lesley concentrated on both her young family and her nursing career, eventually earning her R.N. designation. In more recent years, traveling nurse opportunities allowed her to work in different medical facilities all over the country, in large cities and small towns, and also Sioux and Navajo communities. Lesley enjoyed building friendships in many different places and also visiting relatives along the way and deepening those relationships. With the recent pandemic, she answered the call to serve as a "hero" in several COVID units around the nation and was recognized and appreciated by hospitals and families alike for her work as well as her compassion.
Lesley will find a resting place at the Trilby Cemetery, next to her son, Kollin, and with her father, Douglas, where friends may gather for graveside services on Friday, September 24 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Cherishing Lesleys memory are her husband, Lowell Gassman, of Plant City; her daughter, Anastasia (Eric) West, of Plant City; her mother, Martha Black Sutherland, of Antioch; her brother, Scott (Laura and Haden) Black, of Dade City; and a host of many much-loved relatives and friends. Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City is assisting the family.
