Lawrence Houston
Hale
August 3, 1939 – April 16, 2026
Lawrence Houston Hale, 86, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, in Zephyrhills, Florida. Born on August 3, 1939 in Danville, VT to Clarence and Louise Hale, Larry grew up on the family farm in Hardwick, VT alongside his rambunctious siblings Bert, David, Tom, Roger, and Rosalie.
After graduating from Hardwick Academy in Vermont, Larry served his country in the United States Army and later continued his service in the Vermont National Guard.
In 1963, he married Carolyn Frances Hurst of Wolcott, VT and until the time of Carolyn’s passing, they had shared 53 years of marriage, while raising their family in Morrisville.
Larry built a distinguished career as an HVAC professional and manager at Capitol Plumbing and Heating Group where he dedicated 30 years of service. An entrepreneur at heart, he spent several years in real estate with Vermont Business Brokers. He also owned and operated Towle’s Hardware and Plumbing in Morrisville.
These experiences became the backbone of his true calling. Larry was a ‘professional’ tinkerer and never discarded anything until he was darn certain he wouldn’t need it later to fix something else!
Larry was a man of many passions. He loved the simple joys of walking, reading, playing cards, and he always looked forward to the crisp air of the Vermont woods during deer hunting season each fall. A member of Copley Country Club for over 40 years, he was an avid golfer who relished the opportunity to play year-round after relocating to Zephyrhills, Florida.
Larry was predeceased by his wife Carolyn; his son Alan; his parents; and siblings Burt, David, Roger and Rosalie; and brother-in-law David Hurst.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Newell of Zephyrhills; his brother Tom Hale (Claire) of Johnson, VT; his son, Andrew Hale (Kate) of New London, NH; and his daughter, Laurie Ziemer (Danny) of Zephyrhills. He leaves behind a legacy through his granddaughters: Nikea Camm (Alex), Jeneva McGrath (Timothy), Stefanie Whitten (Bailey), and Alison Casipit (fiancé Randy Rodriguez), He was also the proud great-grandfather of Rowan Whitten.
Larry is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Clifford Hurst and Bill Hurst (Shelia); sisters-in-law, Marjorie Fitch (David), Carolyn Hurst and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in the summer of 2026 at Fairmount Cemetery in Wolcott, Vermont.
