Kemper Michelet Hetzler, Kemp, dropped the mic May 13, 2024, at the age of seventy-nine in Zephyrhills, Florida after a life well lived.
Born to parents Donald Hetzler and Minnie Agnes Halter Hetzler October 2, 1944, in Pittsburgh, PA he had one sibling, older brother Donald Hetzler, who passed away May 5, 2024. The Hetzler family moved to Nokomis, Florida in 1955 where they lived on Dona Bay and so began his love of life on the water. Kemper graduated from Venice High School in 1962 and attended school at Maryville College. He then enlisted in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Hawaii and traveled the world as a member of the US Navy band. He married his high school sweetheart Diana Walker in Honolulu in August of 1965.
After his service, Kemper worked his way up through the ranks of the financial world from the challenge of being a Repo Man in 1967 to Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer upon retirement after 47 years in banking, primarily in Sarasota, Florida. One of his greatest joys during this time was raising his children. In the early years they often enjoyed the beach and camping, and he was a lover of animals, taking in stray cats, dogs and always feeding the birds, ducks, and squirrels. He was proud to serve as a band booster, youth football chain gang dad, or any role needed along the way. When the kids needed help, he was there, and we lost count of the number of times, places, and miles he pulled his trusty trailer to help them load and move furniture up and down the east coast. He also spent a great deal of time bass fishing and was a long-time member of the Bass Buzzards. He was a founding owner of Stress Management, Inc (the Fish Camp) and spent many weekends casting his stress away on Lake Kissimmee.
After retiring he moved to Wesley Chapel to be closer to family. His lifelong passion for music continued as recently as last week where he was known to kick off the Tuesday Elks karaoke party with his rendition of "My Way." Kemp was a friend to many and a stranger to none. We have been honored to hear how his zest for life was felt by so many people who he shared time with through the years. Most recently he was a proud active member of the Elks Lodge No. 2731 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Zephyrhills.
He is survived by his son Mark Hetzler (Svetha) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and daughter Marcy Hetzler-Nettles (Carin) of Wesley Chapel, Florida, grandchildren Monika Hetzler, Amber Maxwell, Marisa Hetzler, Trevor Maxwell, great grandson Chirho Hammond, many friends, and his beloved feline friend Moxie. He was predeceased by his parents Don and Minnie Agnes Hetzler, his brother Donald Hetzler and many pets including Caesar, Patches, Morris, Sanford, Sunny, Kitty Boy, Turbo, Sammy, and Kitty.
