IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathrine L.
Hines
October 7, 1944 – November 6, 2025
Kathrine L. Hines, lovingly known as "Memaw", entered into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, November 6, 2025 following a brief illness. She was born October 7, 1944 in Dade City, FL to Charlie and Eloise Whitten and was a lifelong resident of Hernando and Pasco counties. While the suddenness of her loss is great, the love of her family that surrounded her throughout her life and in her final days is even greater.
She was an employee of Withlacoochee River Electric for 37 years until her retirement in 1999. While working for WREC she worked mainly in payroll and human resources, but also spent a period of time as the secretary for Mr. Billy Brown. After her retirement she spent time volunteering with Meals On Wheels and would also serve as a classroom volunteer at Academy at the Farm when her oldest grandchild was attending school there. She also enjoyed bowling with her mother and aunt and for several years she was a part of the Wednesday Morning Coffee League at Louie's Bowling Alley in Brooksville.
Two of her biggest passions were gardening and travel. She kept a number of rose bushes, zinnias, and sunflowers in her yard and garden over the years. She truly loved the Smokey Mountains and made a number of trips there in her life with various members of her family. She also loved spending time at her second home in Steinhatchee, FL. She would often spend time riding through the woods, fishing, or driving into town to eat at her favorite restaurants.
Without a doubt her greatest love was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From spending time at Lake Weir every 4th of July, to babysitting when needed, to taking them bowling or shopping, or cheering them on at their ball games and wrestling matches, she loved being present for them. She would often drop them off and pick them up from school, making sure to stop and get them something to eat on the way home. There was nothing they could ask for that Memaw wouldn't make sure they had.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Edwin (Papa) Hines; her daughters, Dianne Smith and Danna Twardosky (Josh); Grandchildren Lukas Twardosky (Hannah), Kyleigh Twardosky, Camdyn "John Henry" Twardosky, Bryant Smith, Clayton Smith, and Ashton Smith; her great-grandchildren Kannon Twardosky, Kollins Twardosky, and Marleigh Vance. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Charles Edwards, brother-in-law Steve Adams, sister-in-law Sandra Revels, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Eloise Whitten; her brother Ray Whitten and sister Virginia Edwards. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Bayleigh Twardosky.
Funeral services will be held 10am Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. Burial will follow at Dade City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
