IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith "Judy" Leigh
Falin
January 5, 1945 – August 28, 2018
FALIN, Judith "Judy" Leigh, 73, of San Antonio, FL, passed away at her home on August 28, 2018. Lt Colonel Judith (Judy) Leigh Pegram Falin was a proud native of the Carolinas.
She was introduced to The Salvation Army in Greensboro, NC at an early age and, soon thereafter, began piano lessons. Following High School graduation she worked at the Army for a year before entering The Salvation Army Southern Territory School for Officers Training in 1964 as a member of the Defenders of the Faith session. Her summer assignment in Anderson, SC launched a career of 43+ years of faithful service. She was commissioned in 1966 and appointed to Wilson, NC. A few months later her engagement to Lieutenant John Falin was approved and she moved to Augusta, GA. In June of 1967, she married and joined her beloved John in the Thomasville, GA outpost. The marriage led to the opening of the Thomasville corps. Appointments that followed included the field (Thomasville, GA, Marietta, GA, Alexandria, LA, and Tuscaloosa, AL). She served in various positions at DHQ in the FL, GA, NCV, ALM, MDWV and NCSC Division. She served with distinction in the Womens Department at THQ. When appointed to NHQ as the National Personnel Secretary, she became the first married woman officer in the Southern Territory to be appointed to the Cabinet without reference to her husbands appointment.
She earned an Associate Degree in Interior Design which paid dividends throughout their career, but it was her gift at the piano that brought her the most joy and satisfaction. A gifted preacher, an extraordinary programmer and, a mentor to many; Judy was known for her contagious joy and deep love for people and, most especially for her family. She also loved writing, one example is the MDWV Tuesday Morning Report where she would inspire and encourage the Division through recognition of their good works.
No one loved her family more than Judy, a beloved mother and grandmother known as "Mimi." The family includes her husband, John, and the families of Lisa Harper and her sons, Taylor and Nathan; and John Falin Jr and his wife, Melanie, and their daughters Kaleigh, Alexandra and Sophie; as well as her brothers, Barry (Joyce) Pegram and David (Ellen) Pegram, Tom and Diane Falin and numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
