Obituary

Joyce Irene Hines Sleep passed away on March 20, 2012, in Atlanta, Georgia. Her daughter, Elaine Shah and son-in-law, Tamor Shah, were at her side. She was born October 27, 1925 to Floy and Harry Hines in Dade City. Joyce was a graduate of Pasco High School, and during her senior year, Joyce took special training to be a radio operator aboard airplanes owned and operated by British woman. Their mission was to fly in food and provisions to the Scandinavians who were suffering from severe shortages. During her life she had the opportunity to live many places such as Texas, Japan, Okinawa, Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, Massachusetts, and California. She always made every location a warm home with her outstanding ability to organize and bring out the best in even the less attractive house. She loved gardening and there were always flowers to brighten the landscape. She had health challenges in the past few years which have prevented her from keeping in close contact with the classmates she grew up with, but they are never far away in her thoughts. She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Shah of Atlanta and Jane Stoutenburg of Montana; two granddaughters, Joyce Risse Rodriguez of Harrisonburg, Virginia and Laurel Miller of Belgrade, Montana; and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, March 25, 12-2pm and funeral service 2pm at Hodges Family Funeral Home with burial to follow at Townsend House Cemetery.
