Joseph Kevin Hughes, 62, of Lakeland, FL was born in Dade City, FL to Paul Emery and Lenora Mavis Ellerbe Hughes. He passed away Sunday, January 18 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center after a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Emery Hughes and mother, Lenora Mavis Hughes, his brothers Richard & Clarence Hughes and his sisters Janet, Emily & Shirley Hughes.He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Wanda Kay Hughes, his son Kevin Hughes (Melissa), Mobile, AL, his daughters Jessica Ortiz (Naul), Heather Hughes and his son Ryan Hughes all of Lakeland, FL; 6 grandchildren: Angelica, Naul, Jr., Noah & Aaliyah Ortiz all of Lakeland and Kahlen and Madyson Hughes, Mobile, AL.Mr. Hughes is also survived by four sisters Mavis Dean, San Antonio, FL, Mary Frances Mullins, Tallahassee, FL, Joan Waldron (George), Mobile, AL, Judy Williams (Jerry), Clinton, MS and one brother, Gene Hughes (Charlotte), Waverly, AL. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.Mr. Hughes graduated from Pasco High School and later served in the United States Air Force. He was a disabled American veteranVisitation will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Hodges Funeral Home, Hwy 301, Dade City, FL from 5:00- 7:00 with funeral services being held on Wed., January 21st at 10:00 at Richland Baptist Church. Military interment will be held following the church services at Geiger Cemetery, Hwy 54W, Zephyrhills, FL.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the VFW.
