Gilmore, Joseph Wesley, of Brooksville, FL, passed away at home on Monday, December 2, 2013.Being the youngest of thirteen children, Joseph was born January 4, 1928, in Vilonia, Arkansas, to Lee Anderson Gilmore and Linnie Artra McDaniel.He moved to Florida in 1935. Joe was a veteran of the Merchant Marines, where he served as 2nd Engineer from 1944 to 1949. Joseph married Beverly Johnson on March 23, 1949.After leaving the Marines, he worked for Lykes Pasco citrus processing plant for 13 years. Joe was a pioneer in the Citrus industry in Pasco County. He was also a Rancher and Nurseryman. He was active in the Pasco County Fair Association, Prison Ministries, Youth and Charitable groups. He loved to work and ride his bike 8 miles a day. Joe was a member of the Seven Day Adventist Church in Zephyrhills, FL, and many knew him through his affiliation with First Baptist Church in Dade City, FL.Survivors include five children Joseph Gilmore, Jr. of Wichita, KS, William Gilmore of Floral City, FL, Leslie Lagosky of Dade City, Samuel Gilmore of Vero Beach, FL, and John Gilmore of Dade City;12 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly and his son David Alan Gilmore.A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Dec. 21, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Zephyrhills.
