Joseph Arthur Cieslewicz, Jr. of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away February 14, 2017 at the age of 88 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Rose, children John (Becky) Cieslewicz, Nancy Molenda, Janice Lewis, Joanne Cieslewicz, stepson Eric Sequeira, 8 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He leaves behind two sisters, Jeanette Brown of Austell, Georgia and Joyce Eneberg of Davis, Illinois.He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph Arthur, Sr. and Julia (Sherfinski) Cieslewicz. After graduating Lane Tech High School in Chicago, he traveled the West working as a fire fighter for the U.S. Forestry Service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War achieving the rank of Sergeant, and was in charge of an anti-aircraft radar unit in Fairbanks, Alaska. After the service he earned his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University and began working for Teletype Corporation in Skokie, Illinois in 1955. From 1959 to 1961 he moved with his wife, Norma Jean (Buehl), deceased, to California where he worked for North American Aviation Corp. where he designed pilot flight controls for military aircraft. In 1961, he and his young family returned to Illinois where he resumed employment with Teletype Corp., later AT&T Corp., where he worked in the Research & Development Department until 1988. Included among the products he designed and developed were a tape printer mechanism for a stock ticker used in brokerage offices and stock exchanges, data terminals and displays for Teletype machines, and dot matrix printers. In 1981 he married the love of his life, Rose and after his retirement in 1988 they moved from Arlington Heights, IL to Lakeland, Florida and later Zephyrhills, FL. Never one to keep his mind idle, he went back to work as a mechanical engineer at Eagle Pneumatic in Lakeland, FL designing pneumatic transport systems for drive-up bank lanes. He retired again in 2008 at the age of 80.Joseph put all five of his children through college, determined to set them up for successful lives. He was an avid reader, especially of western novels and passed his love of learning on to his children.A memorial service is planned for Friday, February 17 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Zephyrhills. His internment will be on March 30 in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
