John Albert Stone Sr., 76, passed away on April 10, 2024, in Oldsmar, FL. He was born on March 17, 1948, in Dade City, FL to parents John Henry Stone and Rebecca Mary Magdalene Prater. He grew up with his sisters Evelyn, Carol, Pearl, and Sandra. John graduated from Pasco High School class of 1966. John was a lifelong resident of Dade City.
John married Sharon Hancock on September 20, 1969, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in San Antonio FL. He served his country by joining the Marines. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, and Presidental Union Citation from his service. His interests included helping other veterans obtain and maximize VA benefits, traveling, and meeting new people. His greatest achievements included loving his grand and great-grandchildren and serving and caring for every person he came in contact with.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hancock Stone; children, John Albert (Carol J.) Stone Jr., Michelle Rebecca Scaccia, and Angela (Anthony Edemakhiota) Stone-Edemakhiota; grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Michelle Stone, John Michael Stone, Christopher Ryan Stone, Krystin Marie Stone, Joseph Louis Scaccia, and Kendrick Odaro; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Avalon Rose Stone, Robin Alexandra Stone, Arthur James Stone, Samuel James Love, Cassidy Brooke Love; sisters, Evelyn Quilen, Carol Fedwa, Pearl Page, and Sandra Stone; his service dog Lucy; and too many friends to mention.
A visitation will be held on April 14, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. Another visitation will be held on April 16, 2024, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am with a service immediately after at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. Burial will take place at Florida National Cemetery on April 16, 2024, at 1:30 pm.
