SPIESS, John W. After a period of declining health passed peacefully on May 19th, 2021 at Advent Hospital in Zephyrhills, FL. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Sandra; his sons, John M. (Kathy) and Michael; grandchildren, Jessica and Zachary; and sweet furry pal, Kimber. He was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Francis Spiess; and his brother, Frank Spiess. He was born January 22, 1940 in Allentown, PA. and attended Central Catholic High School. He enlisted in the Air Force and upon discharge began a successful career in the food industry. He served as the divisional head of Bonacker & Leigh Food Brokers Inc. in Tampa, the Regional Director of Knouse Foods in Biglersville, PA. and the President and CEO of Spiess Enterprises Inc., Tampa FL. John was respected and admired by his peers. He was an avid hunter and shared that passion with his sons and grandson. The mounts and trophies displayed in his Man Cave validate their skill. John also loved to travel and, with his wife and friends, enjoyed many exciting adventures both in this country and abroad. Over the years he loved a Seagrams VO on the rocks with a Garcia Vega cigar, he cooked pots of chili, grilled slabs of ribs, won at pinochle, cheated at Scrabble and possessed a magical green thumb. His yards and garden at his homes both in San Ann and North Carolina displayed his talent. In many ways John truly was a man among men. He was our "glorified huckster" that was honest to the core, true to his word and absolutely always measured up to the task at hand. He openly loved and enjoyed his family, proudly served his country and faithfully worshipped his God. May he now rest in peace. To the team of Doctors and medical staff that worked with diligence and compassion on John's behalf our family is eternally grateful. John's funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday May 25, 2021 at 10 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic church in San Antonio, FL. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hodges Funeral Home - Dade City, FL (352) 567-6100.
