John F. Shifley, 77 of Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Galion, Ohio passed away to be with the lord on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Gulfside Hospice in Zephyrhills, Florida after a brief illness with his family by his side.

Born July 13,1939 in Galion, Ohio. He was the son of the late Carl M. and Eleanor M. Shifley (Whiteamire). He was preceded in death by his sister Gloria Shifley.

He married his high school sweetheart, Betty J. Severns in 1960. They have been in- separable since. John retired from Perfection Cobey when the company moved out of state. He began a 2nd career with GCS Air Service in Galion, Ohio as a freight truck driver. He retired a 2nd time in 2004 and moved to Zephyrhills, Florida to enjoy the sunshine.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his favorite team, The Ohio State University Buckeyes. He enjoyed motorsports and was a regular at the former Mansfield Raceway among other local racetracks. He was a member of the former car club in Galion, known as the "Shifters." His pride and joy was a black 1957 Chevrolet 210. Other interests were Bluegrass/Gospel music and the steel guitar playing of Little Roy Wiggins.

He was a member of The First United Church of Christ in Galion. Surviving are his wife Betty J. Shifley, sons Steven (Sarah) Shifley, Rick (Deborah) Shifley of Florida, former daughter-in-law Stephanie Shifley (Whites) of Galion, Ohio. Sister Barbara Perkins of Mansfield, Ohio, Brother Larry (Mary) Shifley of Galion, Ohio. Two grandchildren Christopher (Lydia) Shifley and Scot Shifley of Galion, Ohio. One Great-grandchild Cameron Alexander Shifley of Galion whom he adored. Nieces Lynda (Steve) Eidt, Susan Shifley and numerous great nieces and nephews.

There will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the angels who provided his care at Gulfside Hospice 5760 Dean Dairy Road, Zephyrhills, Florida 33542.
