John A. Rossler, 77, of Dade City, FL passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018.John is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Rossler of FL; son Mark (Katherine) Rossler of NY; daughter Kirstin (Tony) Guanciale of NY; daughter Dierdre (Jeff) Woods of FL; grandchildren Jamie, Maggie, Lane, Andy, Joe, and Emma; sister Barbara Toth of NC; niece Candy Stover of MN, nephews Carl (Jill) Toth of NC, and Christian (Kathleen) Toth of MD; Patricias children Michele Van Tassel of NY, Duane Van Tassel of CA, and their children Cheyenne, Summer Sky, Jimi, Johnny, Rain, Tyler, and Emma.John was born 1941 in Syracuse, NY to John A. Rossler and Johanna Grohmann. He graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, attended Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg, PA, and post graduate studies in Houston, TX. He became a home builder with his father and brother-in-law in upstate NY, and built several apartment complexes with his life-long friend and mentor Ralph Larson. He was later an entrepreneur owning various local businesses including Aamco Transmissions, Muckis NY Deli, and Syracuse Newspaper routes.John was in the forefront of the fathers rights movement, as Vice-Presidents of Equal Rights for Fathers and Fathers Rights Association, performing PR work for both organizations. This led to an NBC White Paper of local fathers movements, an appearance on NBC Today Show, an ABC radio talk show interview in NYC, and other wide ranging exposures. He felt most proud of his core involvement, with attorney Karen DeCrow, in Syracuse FRAs successful Changing Room Lawsuit against the City of Syracuse which brought equality to baby changing rooms in public places that were once exclusively in womens restrooms.John always owned dogs or cats and later in life became passionate about rescue animals. He and Patty adopted their beloved dogs Mickey and Bella, and John trained Mickey to be a certified therapy dog. He supported local food banks and animal shelters with pet food, and volunteered at a local animal shelter. He left behind with Patty their newest addition Wesley who was rescued and spoiled by Johns love.Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 8 at 1pm at St. Marks Church, 2840 Cold Springs Road, Baldwinsville, NY 13027 with reception immediately following at same location. A memorial service in FL will be arranged in the spring.In lieu of flowers please honor John with a donation to the Humane Society of the Nature Coast, Inc., 7200 Mobley Road, Brooksville, FL 34601; Helping Hounds Dog Rescue, 6606 Kinne Road, Syracuse, NY 13214; or a pet rescue organization of your choice.
