Obituary

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John Murphy, aged 78, on Tuesday, February 28 at his home in Zephyrhills, FL after a lengthy illness. Born on February 19, 1946 in Brighton, MA, John was the son of the late Florence (Lanagan) and Daniel Murphy. He moved to Worcester, MA to raise a family and most recently to Zephyrhills, FL to spend his retirement in sunny weather with the goal of never having to shovel snow again. John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carmella (Fogarty) his daughter Andrea Murphy of Uxbridge, MA and his son John Jr. of Atlantic Beach, FL. He is also survived by his in-laws, Anne Roche, Myrna Brown, Gen MacLeod and Kevin Primmer, Dan and Sherry Fogarty and Marjorie Fogarty, all of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Gerald Fogarty and Mary Brufatto of Innisfil, Ontario, Canada, and was known as "Uncle Johnny" to many nieces and nephews in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Nova Scotia. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Danny and Lorraine Murphy of East Boston, MA and Derry, NH, sister and brother-in-law Helen and Ed "Skippy" Driscoll of West Roxbury, MA and brothers-in-law Bill Fogarty and Ken Brown of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later went on to work for many years at General Motors. He spent his later years getting to explore his interests and creativity in a variety of hobbies. Whether it was tropical fish, model railroads, building computers, videogames like World of Warcraft or sublimating mugs and tumblers, John loved to dive into one of the many hobbies he was passionate about and was eager to share his enthusiasm with anyone who would listen. He was a faithful fan of the New England Patriots for all of his life, making an exception for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers only after his favorite quarterback also moved to Florida. The family wishes to thank Gulfside Hospice and the VA for all of their support, as well as the many friends at Forest Lake Estates. There will be no visiting hours and no service is planned. Arrangements were handled by Hodges Funeral Home in Dade City, Florida. Donations in Johns memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
