Obituary

John Stanley McNaboe passed away at Gulfside Hospice on Aug. 28, 2018. He died after a long and valiant fight against Parkinsons Disease and prostate cancer. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 15, 1936. He was the oldest son of Maurice J. and Angela B. McNaboe.

John was raised in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. He attended local schools and while at Cheverus High School, he excelled at both basketball and baseball. After graduating in 1954, he attended Holy Cross College and then served in The United States Army for three years.

One of Johns great loves was baseball. At an early age, he learned to love and play the game from his father and went on to play at several levels. While in high school at Cheverus, he was selected to play on the All Telegram League Team and was elected co-captain of the Cheverus Nine. John also played in the Portland Twilight League on the Portland Copper and Blue Rock Quarry teams. While he attended Holy Cross College, he played fall varsity baseball. During his service, John played for the US Army team in Japan. He was selected and ultimately played for All Army basketball, football and baseball teams. One of his proudest honors was when he was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.

John married the love his life, Carol Jean Larsen, on September 19, 1964. They had twin daughters, Jessica Lynn and Stephanie Jean. Johns sales career moved the family from New England to Cincinnati, OH, where he retired as National Account Manager from James River Paper Corporation. Shortly after his retirement, John and Carol returned to Standish, Maine where they enjoyed spending time with their friends and family. In 2013, John and Carol purchased a home in San Antonio, FL to be closer to their daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren. They were snow birds for a few years before becoming full time Florida residents.

John was most happy when he was with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren. John was a devout lifelong Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He was a proud member of "Red Sox Nation" with his nephew, Andy Parker. They could and often did talk baseball for hours.

John is survived by his wife, Carol, his daughters, Jessica McNaboe and Stephanie (David) Steinmetz and his grandchildren who he adored, David, Trevor and Emily Steinmetz. John will be missed by his cat, Fenway. He is survived by his brothers, Dennis and Tom (Janice), and nephews TJ, Michael, Brian, and Tony. He was especially close to his sister-in-law, Janice Powers and her children Jennifer McNabb, Michael, Andy (Denise), and Carol Parker. He leaves behind many grand and great grand nieces and nephews. He will be missed by dear friends, Paul and Nancy Tobergte of Cincinnati, OH.

John was predeceased by his parents, his mother-in-law, Alice K. Larsen and grandnephew, Lucas Parker.

A heartfelt thank you to his many close friends from Herons Cove of TBGCC who showed what true friendship really is with their support and help whenever needed. A special thanks to Carol and Gary ("Rocky") Gloer for simply always being there.
