In loving memory, JOHN CLAY COMBS, SR. With profound sadness, we announce the passing of John Clay Combs, age 67, whose generous spirit touched countless lives. John passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026 surrounding by his devoted wife and loving daughters. Born September 30, 1958 in Plymouth, Michigan, to Charles and Anne Combs. John moved to Zephyrhills, Florida in his early teenage years. He graduated from Zephyrhills High School with the Class of 1976, and a year later married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Rodgers, on September 10, 1977. Together, they built a beautiful and loving family. John, otherwise known as Johnny, was a devoted family man and friend. He was known for his unwavering dedication to the people he loved and for being a man whose word could be trusted. His presence filled the room with stories and laughter. Johnny had a way of making people feel welcomed, loved and part of the family. John is survived by his wife, Joanne; children Christine (Jonathan) Freeman, Jessica (Billy) Boydston, Mary (Jason) Hall; grandchildren Evan, Bradley (Sierra), Bryan, Isaac (Kylee), Brandyn, Eric, Joie (DeOntae), Jami (Tyler), Jason Jr; and great grandchild Wesley. He leaves behind a family filled with love and countless memories that will be cherished for generations to come. John was preceded in death by his mother, Anne Combs (2001), father Charles Combs (2005), and son, John Clay Combs Jr (2003). Services will be Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Community “First” Presbyterian Church of Zephyrhills. Closed-casket visitaTon will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A brief graveside ceremony to follow. Family and friends are invited to return to the church afterward for food, fellowship, and a time of sharing memories and celebrating John’s life. Though his voice may be quiet now, the stories, laughter, love and memories Johnny gave to his family and friends will live on in all who knew and loved him.
