It is with a great sense of loss that we announce the passing of John Edward Burger, age 87. He went to be with the Lord, passing away peacefully on October 26th, at his home in San Antonio, FL. John was born on April 14, 1932 in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mamie Burger, his brother Virgil Burger and sisters Juanita Nathe (Clarence), Geneva Heidgerken (Victor), Elizabeth Parker (Harold), Mary Burger, Irene Gillis and Virginia Yeager (Ray). John lived in San Antonio and was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church his entire 87 years.John lived a full and happy life with his loving wife for 64 years. John met Betty after a wedding that they both attended at Saint Anthony Catholic Church. Six months later they were married. Together they raised three devoted daughters, Donna Clark (Kevin), Diane Reedy (Patrick) and Laura Burger. He was blessed with six grandsons, one granddaughter and eight great grandchildren. Johns greatest enjoyment in life was when his family was all together celebrating birthdays, holidays and the annual Super Bowl party.John served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War for four years as a Morse code radio operator. He was stationed at Earnest Harmon AFB, Newfoundland, Canada.After returning home he worked for Tampa Electric Company and retired after 32 years. In his younger years, Johns active community life in San Antonio included being a member and past President of the San Antonio Jaycees, serving as a member of the board at his church and coaching Little League. A few of Johns favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals ball games, traveling with Betty and playing Bridge with friends. There will be a recitation of the Rosary on Tuesday, November 5, at 9:30 AM followed by visitation and a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 32832 San Antonio Way., San Antonio, Florida 33576. Burial to follow Mass at Saint Anthony Cemetery on Palm St.In lieu of flowers, please consider donations be made in his name to Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, P.O.
