JoAnn Strickland, age 83, of Blairsville Ga, passed away Friday, October 30th, 2020. JoAnn was born in Plainwell, Michigan on November 3, 1936 to parents Ernest and Hazel (Curtis) Leighton. Survivors include her loving husband Gene, children Michael Holtrum and Pattie Wagner, step-son Michael Strickland (Brenda), daughter-in-law Crystal Winch, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. JoAnn was preceded in death by her daughter Debbie Hotrum. JoAnn was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Union County, Blairsville, Georgia. She and her husband, Gene, delivered food collected at the church to a local food bank. She was a member and past co-chair of the womens Morning Glory Circle, a member of the "Robinettes" preparing meals for church members and she was also the leader of the Crisis meal group for grieving families. JoAnn implemented the first Tim Tebow "Night to Shine" celebration for special citizens which became an annual event at the church. She also was a member and officer in the Avita Community Partners. Other volunteer work included the Blairsville Chamber of Commerce and Union General Hospital. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, November 14th, 2020 at 11:00am, with a gathering of family and friends 1-hour prior at Hodges Family Funeral Home 54 chapel, Zephyrhills. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The Tim Tebow Foundation for the "Night to Shine."
