Obituary

Joan Irene (Andersen) Totoro, age 92, of Ridge Manor, FL, passed away peacefully at Sturgill Hospice Home in Brooksville, FL on Friday afternoon, December 31, 2021. Her brother Jim Andersen and sister-in-law Rubina from Atlanta were holding her hand as she drew her last breath. She was born in the Bronx, NY to the late Arthur C. Andersen and Johanna (Rahika) Andersen, and spent her formative years in Vineland, NJ. She attended Vineland High School, beautician school in Philadelphia and worked in that field for a few years before she was married to Joseph Sobelman in 1951. They had two children, Glenn and Nancy Sobelman. She was active in the Little Theatre Group in Vineland and appeared in a number of performances including the lead female role in Guys and Dolls, stunning the audience with her songs and dance. She married Louis C. Totoro in 1973 and lived in Bridgeton, NJ before settling in Ridge Manor, FL after Lous retirement from State Farm Ins. Lou was an avid golfer and insisted that Joan learn the game. Within 3 years, she was the Lady Golf Champion at the Cohanzick Country Club in Bridgeton and again at the Whispering Oaks Country Club in Ridge Manor. Joan and Lou traveled extensively and played golf in many of the famous courses like Pinehurst in North Carolina, Homestead in West Virginia, Cancun in Mexico, Hawaii and dozens more around the world. She was an avid reader, loved doing crossword puzzles (NY Times in INK!), dancing the night away, spending time with her family & friends. She hung a large map of the world and placed a pin in all of the countries she visited including joining her brother Jim in Atlanta, Reno Nevada, Puerto Rico and India. She treasured the picture of them at the Taj Mahal. Joan will be sadly missed by her son, Glenn Sobelman, three stepdaughters, Paula A. Austin, Dona M.
