Jo-Ann Susan McDermott, 80, Zephyrhills, FL died peacefully at Advent Health after a brief illness. Jo-
Ann was born on August 10, 1942 on the Caribbean Island of Trinidad while her parents, Joseph Napoli and Anne Napoli, were stationed there.
Naming Jo-Ann was an easy task for her parents as their first names were Joe and Anne.
Jo-Ann grew up in Lexington, MA and attended Rose Hawthorne High School.
In 1970, she married the love of her life, Charles McDermott (deceased). They, along with their daughters, lived on Cape Cod. Jo-Ann worked as a real estate broker and enjoyed a wonderful life there.
After her husbands death, Jo-Ann moved to Florida. Jo-Anns mother, who was recently widowed, joined Jo-Ann in Florida where they would live together for many years.
Jo-Ann spent the last two decades of her life in the community of Betmar in Zephyrhills. She participated in volunteer work, was a member of the dart club, enjoyed playing cards with friends, and attended social functions. Jo-Ann loved to be around people and she loved to entertain. She was known for making delicious fruit pies. She loved to garden.
One month prior to her passing, Jo-Ann and her companion, Bill Devine, traveled to Maine to visit her family. She attended her great-granddaughters third birthday party and met her newest great-granddaughter for the first time. While in Maine, she enjoyed spending time looking at the ocean, watching the boats coming and going in Casco Bay and dining on seafood. Another highlight of her trip was visiting the small coastal Maine town of Ogunquit where she and her parents and her siblings would visit her grandparents in the summer.
Jo-Ann will be missed by her daughters: Mary-Anne Rhoads and spouse, Tom Rhoads, of Hampden, ME and Patricia Dugal and spouse, Curt Dugal, of Portland, ME. Grandsons: Matthew Rhoads and spouse, Myra Rhoads, of Hampden, ME, Thomas Dugal of Melbourne, Australia and Michael Dugal of Boston, MA. Great-Granddaughters: Rylee and Oaklee Rhoads of Hampden, ME. Sister: Barbara Winslow of Zephyrhills, FL, Loving Companion: William Devine of Zephyrhills, FL and their dog Tokyo.
She is predeceased by her parents: Joseph and Anne Napoli, husband: Charles McDermott and Grandson: Andrew Charles Nickerson.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, October 14th at 10:00 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Zephyrhills, FL. There will a reception following the service at the Betmar clubhouse.
