LIPKES, Jeffrey Michael, age 70, of Wesley Chapel, passed away at his home on June 6, 2020 from pancreatic cancer.
Jeff was born in 1950 in Los Angeles, California. He was a graduate of University of California-Berkeley and held his Ph.D. in history from Princeton University. He was a teacher, editor, and author of Rehearsals: The German Army in Belgium, August 1914 (U. of Leuven Press); Politics, Religion and Classical Political Economy in Britain: John Stuart Mill and His Followers (Macmillan); and Dear Katharine Courageous: The Letters of Sir Edward Grey to Katharine Lyttelton. He also was co-translator of Belgium and the First World War by Henri Pirenne.
Survivors include his wife Rita Ciresi of Wesley Chapel, FL, daughter Dr. Celeste Lipkes and son-in-law Christian Detisch of New Haven, CT; brother Larry Lipkis (Linda) of Bethlehem, PA; sisters-in-law Anna Ciresi and Rose Massari (John) of Hamden, CT and Joanne Barrett (Kevin) of Weston, FL; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Dr. Maurice and Rita Michaels Lipkis, Jeff is predeceased by his nephew Todd Massari.
Our gratitude to the many nurses, aides, and physicians at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel Hospital and Gulfside Hospice who monitored Jeffs care during the COVID-19 outbreak. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gulfside Hospice, 2061 Collier Parkway, Land OLakes, FL 34639.
