Jeffrey Frank Armstrong passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2014 at the age of 81. Although a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas, he retired to and passed at his and his daughter Janice L. Slavik's home in San Antonio, Florida. Born on December 29, 1932 in Missouri to Albert Frank and Birdie Una Hamilton Armstrong, Jeff was married to the late Barbara Joy Cataldo Armstrong for over 50 years before she passed away in 2003. Jeff was the proud patriarch of the family and is survived by his eldest son Jeffrey Frank Armstrong, II of Kansas City, Kansas; his son Douglas Joseph Armstrong of North Kansas City, Missouri, and his grandchildren, Jessica Mae Armstrong and Uriah Sloane Armstrong; his daughter Janice Lynn Slavik of San Antonio, Florida, his granddaughter, Christa Lynn Phillips Watson of Tampa, his great-grandchildren, Tre J. T. Watson, Alexus Jasmine Watson, and Christian Justus Watson; and his daughter, Mary Jo Armstrong of Canton, Michigan, and his granddaughter, Gabrielle Elise Winfrey.Jeff was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, and served his country honorably in the Korean War, until his discharge. Jeff was a glazier and superintendent and was a member of the Painters and Allied Trades Local 558 in Kansas City for over 40 years prior to his retirement. His career started with Pittsburgh Plate Glass and ended at Carter Glass Company. Jeff was a superior athlete in his younger years and a true student of the sports he enjoyed. As his children became interested in sports, he became the coach for his sons baseball teams, which produced several championships over the years. He also coached his daughter Mary's girls basketball league, which produced some great young ladies also. His true passion was found however in helping others - his family, friends and virtually anyone who needed help, regardless of what needed to be done, all of which he did with a smile, and never a complaint. In his spare time, Jeff truly enjoyed the serenity of golfing, hunting and fishing which by his nature always included his family and friends.A family and friends cook-out will be held in Jeffs honor at his home where he lived with his daughter Janice L. Slavik on Sunday, May 18, 2014 beginning at noon. The address is 13542 Slavik Street in San Antonio, Florida 33576 and all are welcome to come celebrate Jeffs life and remember him.
