Obituary

Jean C. Millard, 63, of San Antonio, Florida passed away in Tampa, Florida on July 4, 2013 after a long fought battle with cancer. Visitation will be at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 11441 US Hwy 301, in Dade City, Florida, at 1:00pm, Saturday, July 20, 2013, and to be followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm. Directions to the reception will be provided at the service. Jean was born on May 23, 1950 in Tampa, Florida. Throughout her entire life, she dedicated herself to helping others. Jean began her lifelong career as an educator in 1973 as a teacher at Brooksville Primary School in Brooksville, Florida, where she taught for 10 years. Jean married Lee Millard in 1977 and began a 36 year adventure, side by side with him. In 1983 she began a career at San Antonio Elementary School, in San Antonio, Florida, that would last 25 years. There she touched the lives and hearts of even the most unreachable students and found her place in life. In addition to her career as an educator, Jean was a lifetime member of, and a tireless volunteer for, the Girl Scouts of America, a pastoral care giver for children at St. Josephs Hospital, a Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart, a recipient of the SAES Teacher of the Year Award, a past president of the Sacred Heart Womens Club, and a member of the Teachers Union. She loved music, panda bears, and trains, was an avid reader, and was a tireless crusader against the epidemic of childhood illiteracy. Jean leaves her memories and adventures to be carried on by her husband of 36 years, Lee Millard, her sister Sandra (Hall) Rupp, and her brother Jack Hall. She is additionally survived by her nieces Nancy Wilcox and Anne Ritter, her nephews Bill and David Rupp, Chris, Charlie, and John Hall, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Dalton and Kay Hall, and her stepfather, William Barry. The people whose lives she touched, though, would take up much more space. Jeans philosophy was To have a friend, you must be a friend, and she was a friend to all. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her name to the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, located at 4610 Eisenhower Blvd. S, Tampa, FL 33634.
