Jean M. Matala March 8, 1931 - December 25, 2020
A former resident of Ridge Manor has passed on this Christmas holiday. She was known by some as their bus driver for the Hernando County School System, and by others as Miss Jean, the bar manager at the Holiday Inn in the late 80's and early 90's.
Jean and her family moved to Marchmont Circle in early 1972 after coming up to what she called "The Riverhouse" for a number of years. Her love was for the community, having a small farming operation selling rabbits, quail, and calves locally.
In late 1995, she and her husband, Albert Matala, moved to Southfork Mobile Home Park in Dade City. They still stayed in contact with their Ridge Manor family and friends.
Jean was called by several names - but I called her MOM. My children called her Grandma Jean. Their children called her Great-Grandma Jean. She will be missed by ALL, her stories of old times, her strong willed advice she gave - picture your best friend who always supported you no matter what you did or got into; stood by you against all advice from her friends and relatives.
Now you know why I called her MOM, I will miss you.
I LOVE YOU MOMSteve Matala
