Obituary

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that the family of Janet T. Geores announces her passing at the age of 85. She passed away on December 7th, 2024, surrounded by her family in Tampa, Florida. To say Janet was an incredible woman is a severe understatement.

Born on December 18th, 1938, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Anna and Julius Flach, she lived with her parents and her brothers Raymond and Rudy Flach. The family fondly remembers how Janet's eyes lit up as she recounted precious memories with them. To her children and grandchildren, she often captivated them with detailed stories of how she was raised, the struggles her family endured, and the heartfelt bonds they shared. The family traditions passed down by her mother and grandmother were kept alive in Janet's heart and home.

Over time, Janet met the love of her life, Frank Geores. Married for 66 years, they experienced undying love for each other despite the challenges married life brings. Anyone who met them could instantly see their deep and heartfelt connection. They were just as in love 66 years later as when they first met. They helped each other, looked after each other, and supported each other regardless of what challenges came their way.

As for the kind of person Janet was, there are not enough words to genuinely encapsulate the full scope and depth of who this amazing woman was at her core. She touched the hearts of each person she came in contact with, ensuring that they felt valued and treasured in her eyes. She never let anyone leave her table or home feeling hungry and was an exceptional hostess, entertainer, and cook. The table was never complete without her homemade and hand-tossed salad, and the holidays weren't quite in full swing until her other family recipes graced the table.

She was a fantastic mother who took the time to ensure her children and grandchildren knew they were valuable, loved, and cherished by her. She held down the fort when Frank had to travel for business and managed the household of four children independently with no complaints or resentment, pushing through whatever life threw her way. She loved animals and welcomed them with open arms. She would feed the neighborhood strays and often talked about a group of abandoned kittens she and her daughter found and later helped find homes for.

Throughout her life, she was an admirable businesswoman, working in several different industries over the years. Most notably, she ran her own business, owning and operating the "Consignment Warehouse."

Not only was she a wonderful homemaker and entrepreneur, but she and Frank continually opened their home to all who needed a place to stay. She was involved in a number of charity initiatives and continually gave funds to Feed the Children throughout her lifetime. The impact they both have had on their communities and the lives of the people they've touched is beyond measure.

Beyond all of these incredible qualities, she was just all around a fun person to be with. She loved both sailing and skiing and was quite an adventurer. She often took road trips with the family and reminisced about the wonderful trips to Lake Tahoe and the Florida Keys she enjoyed. She was a songwriter and artist and did craft projects with Frank and their kids most evenings. She also had an amazing sense of humor and an indescribable way with sarcasm. She would tell a joke, and you could absolutely see a twinkle of delight in her eyes.

A much-loved woman, she is survived by those who love her dearly, foremost among them her husband, Frank Geores. She leaves a legacy in her children: John (with his wife Bunny), James, Lisa, and David (with his wife Lisa L.). She was also surrounded by a multitude of grandchildren who cherish her, including Eric, Christopher, Danny (with his wife Kimberly), Jay (with his wife Blair), James, and Matthew (with his wife Elizabeth), and great-grandchild Savannah. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Willow.
