Obituary

Janet Whitacre Geiger, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on April 28th, 2024 in Zephyrhills, Florida. She was born on July 26th, 1947 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania to Nancy Allen and Raymond Edward Whitacre. In her passing she leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Janet is survived by her devoted husband Barry Eugene Geiger; her loving children Katherine Geiger Helms, Christine Geiger, and Barry Samuel Geiger; as well as her precious granddaughter Elizabeth Skylynn Helms; grandson Ethan Matthew Helms; great-granddaughter Maya Key Babb; sister Rebecca Whitacre; brothers Raymond Whitacre and Jim Whitacre. She is preceded in death by her brother Robert Whitacre. Janet's life was marked by selflessness and unwavering faith. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout the years - including suffering from four strokes which eventually left her requiring total care - she never lost the warmth of her smile or the kindness in heart. Her resilience was an inspiration to all who knew her. She found joy in simple pleasures such as cooking delicious meals for loved ones or sewing beautiful creations with meticulous care. Her presence at church was a source of comfort for many as she sang angelic melodies within the choir. Above all else though, Janet treasured spending time with family and caring for the children around her. Her impact extended far beyond those closest to her Janet touched countless lives with acts of kindness that reflected God's love through every action she took. Her spirit shone brightly even during times of adversity because it was rooted deeply in faith and hope. Janet lived each day guided by Jesus' teachings: "I am the Resurrection and the life," John 11:25 words that provided solace not only to herself but also to everyone whose path crossed hers over the years. A woman of boundless generosity who never ceased praying for others often approaching strangers simply to offer them prayers Janet exemplified what it meant to live a life dedicated wholly to serving others with unyielding love. As we bid farewell today we find comfort knowing that there is no sorrow accompanying this loss because Janet has returned home into the arms of our Lord where she belongs. Services honoring Janets memory will be held at 1 PM on Monday May 13th at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell where friends and family can gather together one last time before bidding their final farewells.
