It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of James Willard Snead, who departed this life on March 13, 2026, in Zephyrhills, Florida, at the age of 91. Born on July 24, 1934, in Altoona, Alabama, James was the beloved son of Louie I. Snead and Mattie Lee Snead. He was a dedicated husband to his cherished wife, Adell Snead, with whom he joyfully united in marriage on June 1, 1968, in Tampa, Florida.
James's professional journey led him to a successful career at Winn-Dixie for 15 years. He was also a food broker working for many years, where he was respected for his expertise and integrity. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served his country with honor and commitment.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, James was a man of many passions. He enjoyed playing ball and hunting birds alongside his loyal bird dog, Joe. His zest for life was evident to all who knew him.
James is survived by his loving wife, Adell; siblings Fay Sue (Eddie) and Leonard Snead; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents and a large and close-knit family of eight brothers and five sisters.
The family will honor James's life with a series of services. A visitation will be held at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Zephyrhills on March 19, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will take place at the Florida National Cemetery at 1:00 PM on the same day, where he will be laid to rest.
Due to restrictions at the cemetery, the family requests donations be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, as it was the church that he attended for many years.
In this time of mourning, we invite all who knew James to come together to celebrate his life and legacy. He will be deeply missed but will remain in our hearts forever.
