James "Jim" David Rast, 76, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Jim was born on July 8, 1950, in Wildwood, Florida, to Paul Joseph Rast and Gynelle Kyle Rast.

A gifted professional musician, composer, singer, and bandleader, Jim devoted much of his life to music. With talent, creativity, and deep dedication, he made music a defining part of his life and a source of connection with others. Through his performances, he shared his love of music with countless people, bringing his own distinctive spirit to all he did. He was a mentor to many musicians throughout his life, offering his knowledge, experience, and encouragement to help others grow in their own musical journeys.

Above all, Jim was a devoted and loving father who cared deeply for his family. He shared close and lasting bonds with many members of his extended family, who held a special place in his life and heart.

Jim is survived by his children, Willie Rast (Aliza) and Ann Rast (Jimmy); his grandchildren, Paxton, Jocie, and Ben; and his sister, Kay Rast Wilson.

His legacy will live on in his family and in all those whose lives he touched through his music, mentorship, and friendship.

The Rast family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and nurses at Compass Rose of Zephyrhills and to the team at HPH Hospice for the compassion, care, comfort, and guidance they provided during the final chapter of Jim's life.

The family will announce details for a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Jim's memory may make a donation to HPH Hospice through the Chapters Health Foundation.
