Purcell, James Patrick Jim, 78 of Dade City, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at home. He was born April 21, 1935 in Evansville, IN to Clark Newton & Aurelia Purcell and moved to Dade City 18 years ago from Palm Beach County. He was a US Navy Veteran and graduated from the Jacksonville University in 1963. He worked for Smoak, Davis & Nixon CPA Firm in Jacksonville from 1963-1966 and then became the Finance Officer for Nassau County School Board. He became the Assistant Director of Finance for Palm Beach County School Board from 1967 to 1970, Director of Finance from 1970-1976 and then Treasurer/Director of Cash Management from 1976 to 1992. He was elected President of the Florida School Finance Officers Association in 1978. He is survived by his wife: Sherrie Case; 3 daughters: Colleen (Don) Taylor, Lawrenceville, GA, Tracey Purcell, Palm Beach, FL, Paige (Kyle) Tilley, Dallas, GA; step-daughter: Melissa Walters, Dade City, FL; sister: Margaret Elfreich, Evansville, IN; 3 grandchildren: Caitlyn (Jimmy) Cheshire, Ball Ground, GA, Courtney Taylor, Lawrenceville, GA, Tye Walters, Dade City, FL; 1 great granddaughter: MaKenzie Cheshire, Ball Ground, GA. Graveside services will be held 3pm Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Chapel Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends for viewing from 1-3pm Sunday at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home. Flowers will be gratefully accepted or those that wish may make a donation in his memory to the Roy Hardy Benevolent Trust Fund Inc.
