January 11, 1950 – October 10, 2025
James Larry Overstreet, 75, passed away peacefully October 10, 2025 at James A. Haley VA Hospital Hospice in Tampa, FL after a lengthy illness. Larry was a devoted husband to his wife, Leanne, for 54 years.
Larry was born and grew up in Dade City, FL His ancestors were one of the early settlers in the area. Larry attended Pasco High School where he participated in many sport venues (mostly baseball). Afterward he enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1968 -1972 and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Big Red One unit. He then went on to join the U.S. Army Reserves.
His career was mainly in the trucking industry (Florida Refrigerated and Southeastern Truck Lines) and he eventually went on to own his own company, J&L Express Trucking before he retired.
Larry never met a stranger and had a knack for giving one liner jokes or retorts. He loved being a "country boy" and all it entailed. "He was a one of a kind fella." He found much pleasure in fresh water fishing, hunting and planting a vegetable garden as well as spending time with his pets. He attended Pasadena Baptist Church in Dade City for several years.
Larry is survived by his wife, Leanne and has many loving nephews and nieces; Troy Lauramoore, Mitchell Creel, Steve Overstreet, Brian Overstreet, Randy Overstreet, Todd Yarbrough, Robin Lauramoore, Denise Overstreet and Donna Overstreet. Sisters-in-law, Dianne Lauramoore and Karen Robinson (Mike).
A memorial service will take place on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Dade City. Full military honors service will follow the memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
